Artist of the week!

Today I'm gonna present my fav band ever: Asian Kung Fu Generation (aka Ajikan)! The consisted of 4 members: vocalist Masafumi Gotoh, guitarist Kensuke Kita, bassist Takahiro Yamada, and drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi. They were formed in Yokohama in 1996 as a college band, then they were joined by the drummer Kiyoshi later to form the actual band. They started as an indie group and first released English songs, then they decided they should release Japanese songs instead. They started to break out with their album Houkai Amplifier in 2003 which got good reviews and scored in the top 40 indie charts. Some of their songs were chosen as opening songs for the popular anime series Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist.

With their popularity increasing in the Japanese rock industry music, they've started their own music festival: the Nano Mugen festival and invite Japanese and Foreign bands to participate in their festival. Ajikan's music lost their dynamic rhythm from their debut, but instead they started to mature in their own way. I still prefer their debut songs from Houkai Amplifier and Sol fa albums. I've got the chance the see their live concerts three times during my exchange year in Japan and really enjoy each concert!

I recently realised that the English server of albatross 18 aka Pangya has been bought back by another company since goa dropped it! I need to find out if it's possible to get my previous account back. I still have cookies on it >_<;; My bad for not playing over a year I guess and not reading the newsletters. Anyway I came accros this AD on youtube and found out there was a PSP version of the game. I have the wii version but it's so boring to play alone. I still prefer to play it online. Best golf game I've ever played so far. A bit unrealistic, but if it was it wouldn't be fun, right? :)

Artist of the week!

I'm one day late! But I didn't forget! This week's featured artist is Udata Hikaru, probably one of the best selling artist in Japan. If you've heard about Ayumi Hamasaki, you've certainly heard about Utada too. Born in New York city from Japanese parents, she debuted her Japanese career at the age of 16. Before that, she tried to debut in US without any much success. However her first Japanese album First Love became a big Hit in Japan which made her really popular in Japan. Until now, she has released 12 number one singles on the Oricon Singles Chart, with 5 of them selling for more than one million copies. She compose and write all her songs. She's also famous for her contribution to the Kingdom Heart video games and also, lately, for some Japanese dramas such as Hana Yori Dango or Last Friends.

I'm still busy with exams, but after-tomorrow, most of my important exams will be done so I can make some graphics again. Today, I'll just post a sample of my portofolio. Some of the sigs have won graphics contest, but again I still think the results depend of the host own tastes too. In few weeks, as some of you may know, I will go to Japan, so I will probably stop posting graphics for few months and post photos of japan instead :)

Artist of the week!

This week's artist is Art-School, a Jrock band composed of 4 members. The band was formed in 2000 and is now majoring under the label Pony Canyon. Since 2003, all their concerts has been sold out. I know that two of the members are also performing in another indie band occasionally which is called "Karen", with a female vocalist. I happen to see a live of this band and it's really good. I also went to see one of Art-School's lives last year in Nagoya for the first time and they're absolutely wonderful on stage. The voice of the vocalist may sound strange at first, but like many groups, I think it is one of their selling points. They also seem to perform at least once a month in Shinjuku or Shibuya, so if you live in Tokyo, check them out!

Artist of the week!

This week's featured artist is Kokia. I've just listened to her newest album the other day, and her voice is beautiful and fabulous. Kokia is a Japanese singer. Her real name is Akiko Yoshida and is from Tokyo. She's become famous thanks because some of her songs has appeared in anime and videos games. In Japan, one of her songs were used for commercials which made her a bit more popular in the Japanese public. She's studied Opera and classical music in University where she was scouted by Pony Canyon. Later she switched label with Victor entertainment until 2005. Since then, she launched her own website and become independent. She started to perform lives in Europe where her CDs are released under the Wasabi Records label in France.

Right now, Kokia is currently in tour in Europe. I think I have bad luck cause I'm always out of country when she comes in France. You can check for more info on her official website.

Because I love Asian Kung Fu generation, so today I want to share some videos I found on youtube. It's one of their live performances. I wished I was in japan this year to see their tour. I didn't miss any of their live tours last year though! It's probably my favorite band ever. You can check their info on their official website, they also have en English version of it. I will most likely feature them one day in the artist of the week section, but I have so many artists that I want to present. As I know Ajikan si pretty famous, I thought it was okay they could wait a little bit more, right? ;) If you are in Japan this summer, please don't miss the Nano-Mugen festival in Yokohama Arena in July! So for now, just enjoy those videos :D

Artist fo the week!

Today is monday, the day of "the artist fo the week". I'm going to present you a band "9mm parabellum bullet". Their style is mixed with rock, punk, metal, emo, hardcore. They were formed in march 2004 and are now majoring under the label Emi Music Japan. The group is composed of 4 members: Sugawara(Guitar/Vocal), Taki(Guitar/Chorus), Nakamura(Bass/Chorus), Kamijo(Drums). In the last few years, they've began to gain a lot of praise from the public, especially for their live performances.

I've seen them once in live and once during the Arabaki Festival in Sendai and all I can say is their lives rock!

Artist of the week

Today is monday, the day of "the artist fo the week". I'm going to introduce you Bennie K, a urban female duo. The duo is made of CICO (the rapper) and YUKI(the vocalist). They debut in Japan in 2002 with "For Life" labels. So far, they've released 5 albums and 2 mini albums and best of of their discography. They've also collaborated with many famous RnB/Hip Hop Japanese artists such as M-flo, SEAMO or SOUL'd OUT.

My favorite songs of them are Monochrome and Dreamland. Monochrome was chosen to be the opening theme of the Japanese drama "Binbo Danshi" featuring the famous Japanese actor Oguri Shun.

Today's freebies are wallpapers, the first one is from the manga Kuroshitsuji (although it looks shounen-aish, it is not, I think... XD). The second wallpaper is from the manga Vampire Knight bu Hino Matsuri. I did two versions of it. I made all the wallpapers in two sizes (1280*800 and 1024*768). Sorry if they look plain, I'm not so good at making wallpaper U__U;; I'm not a fan of both manga since I didn't like the ending of both of them but I did like the art, especially Matsuri Hino-sensei's art.

Artist of the week

Today, I'm going to present Depapepe, a acoustic guitar duo. So far, most of their albums were great! I've seen two of their lives in Japan, and I really enjoyed their concerts. The duo of Takuya Miura and Yoshinari Takuoka was formed in 2002 and they're still actively performing now. Their composition always has a hint of Japanese folk music inside, although they have proved to be able to play various sounds.
